Autorama Weekend 2017....We Interrupt This Breaking News!!!
If you're from Northern California like us, you're in need of some good news right about now. It wasn't that long ago that we couldn't get Mother Nature to squeeze out any of her precious tears on California. Fast forward to present day, and we can't get the rain to cease. As of this past weekend, we can't escape the emergency alerts warning us of the sometimes imminent danger of flooding or the failure of the Oroville Dam (the tallest in the US, if you hadn't already heard), just a couple of hours north of Sacramento.
This said, we need a break from the breaking news. Fortunately for us, this weekend is the 67th annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Autorama at Cal Expo! Nothing gets our minds off of impending aquatic doom like chrome, excessive amounts of metallic flake and immaculate undercarriages!
The show runs from the 17th to the 19th, and is mostly indoors. Rain be dammed! And if there's any break in the rain (possibly Saturday) the talent indoors will be surrounded by hundreds of other rods and customs that typically occupy the sprawling acreage of the venue. In years past, this impromptu gathering of clubs and the unaffiliated who just want to show has been a real bonus for all who pay the price for admission. In our humble opinion, this "Drive-In" assemblage is worth the price of entry by itself.
The Autorama is a mainstay on the TLP calendar and we think that it should be on yours too. General admission is $20 for adults (13 years old and up), Junior admission (6-12 years old) is $10 and kids 5 and under are free. Discount vouchers (only redeemable at the main gate) can be obtained at participating O'Reilly Auto Parts locations and will take 2 bucks off of the regular ticket prices. The parking will set you back an always breathtaking $10 (as always),
So, if you're like us and just need to get out of a rut and see some of the most beautiful automotive creations on the planet, get out to the Autorama this weekend and we think you won't be disappointed.
