1988- In what is regarded as a perfect lap, Ayrton Senna storms to pole, 1.4sec quicker than his closest challenger, Alain Prost. In the race, he throws away victory by clouting the barriers.
1996 - As drivers slip and slither around the damp streets, Ligier’s Olivier Panis steadily picks his way through the accidents and breakdowns to claim his only grand prix victory.
2008 - Lewis Hamilton’s GP looks all but over when, on lap five, he clouts the barrier and punctures a tyre. But he mounts a relentless charge and sweeps through the field to win.
2012 - Michael Schumacher has already won the Monaco GP five times, but arguably his finest performance comes when, aged 43, he puts an uncompetitive Mercedes on pole.
