Monterey 2016 Preview #1

Monterey 2016 Preview #1

In a little over a month the Monterey Peninsula will become California's very own Monaco on the Pacific.  We will be there to take in every site, sound and smell and we encourage our friends and supporters to attend as well.  If you are only going to attend one car event this year we recommend one of the numerous activities that will occur in mid-August.

In the first of several previews to come, we are highlighting a piece of racing history that will be up for auction by Gooding & Company at Pebble Beach.

Its the Porsche 935, chassis 009 0030, driven by actor and racer Paul Newman in his debut at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans where he went on to finish second overall.  Yet, thats not all.  It remains the only race car ever sponsored by Apple, as Apple Computers sponsored the car in the 1980 season.  In 1981 the Porsche won the 24 Hours of Daytona with drivers Bobby Rahal, Brian Redman and Bob Garretson.  It didn't stop there as in 1983 it would win the 12 Hours of Sebring with Wayne Baker, Jim Mullen and Kees Nierop.

This isn't just a Porsche with an elite pedigree.  It's a history lesson.
