Detailed description
Porsche 935
Porsche produced the 935 on basis of the 930 Turbo between 1976 and 1981, the factory's racing team used it in brand world cup races from 1976 to 1978. In order to increase the chances for titles, the factory initially sold small series to private teams as of 1977. With the retreat of the factory team after the 1978 season, Porsche left the field entirely to private racing teams and limited itself to the supply of cars and spare parts. Until 1982 private teams started with the 935 in the brand world cup race and the 1st division of the 'Deutsche Rennsport-Meisterschaft' (German Racing Cup). In the North American IMSA-GT racing series the 935 participated between 1977 and 1986.
According to FIA rules, group 5 racing cars had to maintain the basic shape of bodies from serial models, in order to receive homologation. As far as doors, fenders and hoods were concerned, manufacturers had more freedom in choice of materials and form. Next to the factory, several private racing teams also made group 5 race cars on basis of the 930, the team Kremer Racing was particularly famous and successful.
The racing car offered here was built on the original basis of a 1977 Porsche 930 Turbo for the racing team of the American race driver Norm Goldrich. It was used for several years. In 2000 the car found a new owner. At that point extensive revisions and improvements were executed. The bodyshell was reinforced with a tube frame and a cage. The engine was modified to a 3.2 liter turbo. In the process, the crankshaft was renewed, new Carillo piston rods were used, the cylinder heads were renewed and improved, a double ignition was installed and all the engine's critical components (pistons, cylinder, inside of cylinder heads, valves) were coated with zirconium or Teflon. A larger Garret turbocharger was also built in. The engine had 610 hp at a boost pressure of 1.2 bar and a torque of 800 NM. With a racing weight of only 1086 kg (incl. full fuel tank) the 935 reached a maximum speed of 290 km/h. The 4 gear transmission has a short transmission bell housing, a Billet aluminum shift, a Quaife differential and modified gear wheels. The 935 has BBS racing wheel rims in a size of 11x16 inch on the front axle and 14.5x16 inch on the rear axle. The brake system was made by Brembo. The windscreen is made of security glass, side and rear screens are made of Lexan. The tail plane is continuously adjustable. All in all, more than 300,000 USD were invested in its revision. Currently, the Porsche is ready to use in group 5 races. Over the past 11 years it regularly participated in vintage car races.
Magirus race car transporter
The conversion of this race car transporter was modeled on the Mercedes-Benz Porsche race car transporter. With its hydraulic platform and a lifting capacity of 1,500 kg, the transporter can carry almost all Porsche race cars. The internal height of 2150 mm allows easy loading. The aluminum construction is soundproof and has a door at its right side with fold-out stairs. Due to the H-certificate (for historic vehicles) the car is exempt from toll- and pollution badge. The vehicle has been out of service since 2011 and requires a new main vehicle inspection for new registration.
