Rookie Wins Indy 500
Throughout the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500 the front of the field was shared by the standard names in IndyCar. Veterans like Castroneves, Kanaan, and Hinchcliffe battled near the front for most of the race, but in the last ten or so laps fuel considerations would shake up the order as some teams decided to pit for fuel while others gambled on staying on track.
It would come down to fuel saving and strategy as Auburn, California’s Alexander Rossi would find himself in the lead. The 24-year old rookie would cross the line on fumes and take the win in his first attempt at the the 500.
