RM Sotheby's will offer up a 1955 Jaguar D-Type (Chassis No. XKD 501), that is one of the most important Jaguars in the world. This Jaguar won the 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans and is the only Le Mans winning C-or D-Type that has survived intact and remains original. The 1956 24 Hours of Le Mans was beset with brutal weather in the form of rain and mist that never completely subsided. The race would began with 49 cars but only 14 would finish.
The XKD 501 has been featured in numerous publications as the ultimate example of Jaguar excellence and won the Jaguar Competition class and the Road & Track Award at the 2002 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
